Zero Waste Workshop and Discussion

The Zero Waste Prince George’s, College Park’s Committee for a Better Environment, and Community Research invite you to a presentation on an effective strategy to reduce waste, increase recycling, save money, and protect public health.

Kristen Brown, a national expert and the Vice President of Municipal Partnerships for WasteZero (a Certified B Corporation), will present on Save Money and Recycle Tons (SMART), a unit pricing scheme used by 7000 communities across the United States to charge for waste collection and disposal according to the amount of waste discarded. Also known as Pay As You Throw, SMART has been found to immediately and significantly increase recycling and decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, with no increase in illegal dumping.

Join the workshop and discussion for an interesting discussion about this common-sense strategy and how it could be implemented in our communities. The meeting will also include an update on the Zero Waste Strategic Plans of Prince George’s County and of the State of Maryland.

The event will take place on JANUARY 7, 2015, 7:00-9:00 P.M. at the City Hall, 4500 Knox Road, College Park, MD 20740 . Please spread the word.
