At the last week’s Council meeting, the City Council approve the purchase of a new fire sprinkler system for the Youth, Family, and Senior services building located at 4912 Nantucket Road.

Cost for the system is estimated at $66,840.

The previous sprinkler system was more than 15 years old and failed in October 2016. When the system failed the sprinklers were activated causing approximately $45,000 in damage. Insurance covered the damages minus a $1,000 deductible.

In FY’99 a Facilities Capital Reserve Account was established to budget for expenditures relating to major maintenance and repairs of City owned buildings. Unfortunately, there is not currently enough money in this fund to cover replacement of the sprinkler system.

There is currently a bid to replace the roof for the Youth, Family and Seniors services building, additional expenditures underway include repairs to the Old Parish House, and an upgrade of the facilities at Public Works.
