Two Rhode Island Ave RRFBs to Go Live this Week

RRFB’s on Rhode Island Avenue

Two RRFBs (Rapid Rectangular Flashing Device) have been installed at the Cherokee St. (near Duval Field) and Muskogee St. intersections of Rhode Island Avenue. Per our staff, they will go operational some time this week. I took this picture last week at the Cherokee Rd intersection (looking south on RI).

Once we’re completely happy with their operations, staff plans to install 2 more RRFBs, one at the Hollywood Rd. intersection and another at the Sunnyside skate park.

In case you’re new to RRFBs, they remain dark until a pedestrian presses a push button to activate the system. When activated, the RRFB emits rapid, alternating bursts of light to warn motorists that pedestrians are crossing the roadway, You can check this video to see how RRFBs work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBltx0Argag

Please let me know if you have any questions.
