Vol. 2 Issue 14 – August is National Peach Month…

…and that’s perfect for a farmers market!  Both Calvert Farms and Valencia Produce have peaches galore!  Why wait until next weekend? Start enjoying those peaches now.  :)

A little peachy-keen facts:
– Peaches were originally from China.  It was Spanish explorers who brought peaches to America in the 1600’s.
-Georgia is known as the “Peach State” but most peaches are grown in California so they can be available almost year round.
-Peaches are a good source of vitamins A and C.  They are fat free, cholesterol free and sodium free.
-The two main varieties of peaches are the Freestone and the Clingstone.  The pit is easy to remove in a Freestone while a little more difficult in a Clingstone.
-Nectarines are a type of peach but have smooth skin without the fuzz.
-Have you ever tried a grilled peach?  Here is an amazing recipe:  Halve the peaches (remove pit); brush with melted butter; grill on each side 4-5 minutes; enjoy.
