SunSplash Farm returns this Saturday Hollywood resident and farmer Pete Charlerie, owner of SunSplash farm, will return to the Hollywood Farmers Market tomorrow. As he did last year, he will offer high-quality vegetables, cut flowers, and culinary herbs. Be sure to visit him at his space and say hello—and buy some of the very-fresh produce he will bring!Coming Next Saturday: The Washington Oak KittensAt 11 am on Saturday, July 26—one week from tomorrow—College Park author Renee Domogauer will read from her recently published children’s picture book and share the true-to-life events behind the story. As an added treat, she’ll offer children a chance to express themselves in an art project related to the oak tree that is the subject of the book. All you have to do is just bring the little ones and a chair or blanket to sit on and join Renee under the trees for a delightful time!

Sunsplash Farm Basil, Basil and More Basil: ‘tis the Season To say that fresh basil is a versatile herb is an understatement. We can blend it into a garlicky pesto, sprinkle it over grilled pizzas, and toss whole leaves into fresh salads. In addition to being delicious, it’s full of vitamin C and even has a dash of vitamin A and calcium. The recipe below for the classic Caprese salad is one of the easiest ways to use basil, and the Internet offers hundreds more recipes. Caprese Salad (Serves Four) Gently toss the first four ingredients together in a large bowl then season with salt and pepper.
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella
- 2-3 tomatoes
- Basil and parsley to taste
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- Sea salt
- Black pepper
