Vol. 2 Issue 12 – Senior Saturday!

It’s summer here in Maryland and the 3 H’s- Hazy, Hot and Humid are out in full force.  We hope everyone is finding ways to stay cool as this heat wave continues on into the weekend.  Please remember to stay hydrated and if you feel like you need a cooling station…

Cooling Station Locations Open to the General Public:

In partnership with Prince George’s County emergency management, designated M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation facilities will offer a cooling area with seating any time temperatures reach 90 degrees or higher.  You may have people coming into these sites to get out of the heat; please offer them appropriate hospitality.

The following M-NCPPC facilities will be open from 10 am – 8 pm Monday through Friday, and during normal business hours for each site on Saturday and Sunday.  All residents are asked check in at the facility’s front desk upon arrival. The County’s 311 information system, local media, and websites are sharing the locations of our Cooling Stations and encouraging people to use them if needed.

Our nearest cooling station is located at the College Park Community Center located at 5051 Pierce Ave

MEET THE MUSICIAN: John Relph (the other member of the Double Sharp duo)

Stop by and listen to the band Double Sharp each week at the market.  John Relph and Eric Vesper have been playing music together for more than 10 years, formalizing the arrangement 3 years ago as the duet Double Sharp.

John is a California native and has played the mandolin since his childhood.  Winner of more than 20 mandolin and guitar contests and a staple at the National Fiddle Championship in Idaho every year, John’s artistry is matched only by his technique and yields some of the finest mandolin music found anywhere.  John lives in Bethesda, but happily travels to College Park every weekend to support the market, where he particularly enjoys Alcoba Coffee.
