Yesterday, I had the opportunity to join Wes Moore right here in College Park for an important announcement focused on public safety across our state. Standing alongside our City and County Council colleagues and our dedicated police officers, the Governor announced $124.1 million in new state funding to strengthen public safety efforts throughout Maryland.
This investment comes at an encouraging time. In several major crime categories, we are seeing positive trends with crime going down. That progress matters—but just as important is how safe people feel in their own neighborhoods. This additional funding will help build on the momentum, support law enforcement and community-based safety strategies, and reinforce the sense of security that residents deserve.
For College Park, moments like this highlight the value of strong partnerships between the state, county, and local governments. Public safety works best when all levels of government are aligned, sharing resources and working together with our police officers and community members. Yesterday’s announcement was a clear example of that collaboration in action.
I was really glad to be part of this moment and proud to see College Park included in a broader statewide commitment to safety, prevention, and trust-building. Together, with continued investment and cooperation, we can ensure that College Park remains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place for everyone.
