With Hurricane Florence now a Category 4 storm making landfall Thursday morning around the Carolinas, residents should prepare their homes and households in case of the storm’s impact. For up-to-date storm information, please visit: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

The City of College Park is actively monitoring the weather 24/7 to prepare for the storm. In preparation for potential high winds and area flooding, the City’s Department of Public Works crews are inspecting low lying inlets and storm drains that are prone to flooding to ensure that they are clean and free of debris, checking and readying all equipment and prepping staff for possible impact.

Prepare your home and household for the hurricane by making sure that all drains are clear, sump pumps are working correctly and by bringing all loose outdoor items inside. You can even consider installing hurricane doors and hurricane impact windows for  protection to keep you and your family safe. Make sure to do all the lawn maintenance you can before any extreme weather comes by, cut your grass, collect all the leaves, trim any dead branches, this way you can avoid having any debris fly into your home and cause any unwanted damages. Hire a roofing contractor to reinforce your roof and make necessary repairs. Being extra precautious is important to avoid having to do extensive repairs to your home from the damages caused by mother nature. Make sure to also have emergency supplies on hand in case of power outages and injuries from debris flying towards them.
