Prince George’s County Council has finally banned the certain use of polystyrene in the food industry.

Last year County Councilwoman Mary Lehman introduced and passed CB 5-2015, legislation prohibiting the use and sale of certain expanded polystyrene food service products and loose fill packaging effective July 2016.

These containers are not easily recycled, do not biodegrade, and are a major contributor to trash pollution. The District of Columbia and Montgomery County have passed similar legislation allowing a regional approach to protecting our watersheds. Learn more here.
