MOM’s Organic Market will take the REI’s vacant spot, as REI moves out to DC next month. The good news is that the new expanded MOM’s will have a restaurant inside it.
I came to know the news a few week’s ago after talking to a representative of the New Carrolton Enterprises, the owner of the shopping complex. The Washington Business Journal has broken the story today.
The current MOM’s location is just 8,000 square feet, and MOM’s is close to a deal to take the 27,000-square-foot REI space. MOM’s likes to open a 15,000- to 17,000-square-foot grocery store and find “a symbiotic co-tenant” to take the other square footage it doesn’t need.
The expanded MOM’s will include the Naked Lunch counter available in some of the grocer’s newer locations, as well as possibly another new offering. MOM’s Baltimore store has a coffee roastery and espresso bar, according to the story.
The Carrolton is also looking for another tenant for the current MOM’s store.
