As of Sunday, December 15, College Park residents and visitors are now benefiting from enhanced Metro services on the Green Line, which serves two key stations in our city—College Park–University of Maryland and Greenbelt. These improvements include increased train frequency and expanded bus services, providing a much-needed boost to public transit options in our community.
Enhanced Green Line Service
Green Line trains, which connect College Park to major destinations in the region, now run every six minutes on weekdays until 9:30 p.m., an improvement from the previous eight-minute intervals during off-peak hours. This increase is made possible due to additional operator availability, allowing Metro to enhance service reliability and reduce wait times for riders. The Yellow Line, which shares tracks with the Green Line in parts of the system, is also offering similar improvements, providing even more frequent service options.
Metrobus Service Adjustments
In addition to the rail service upgrades, Metro has implemented changes to 26 Metrobus routes across the region, including several in Maryland. These updates are designed to adapt to ongoing construction projects, such as the Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line, and to improve on-time performance and overall customer satisfaction.
In Maryland, highlights include:
• The creation of a new bus loop at New Carrollton to accommodate Purple Line construction.
• Adjustments to routes B24, B27, F6, F13, G12, G14, R1, R2, T14, and T18 to optimize service.
Better Connections for College Park
As a city served by two Green Line stations, these changes are a significant win for College Park. The improved frequency of trains makes it even easier for residents, students, and visitors to connect to Washington, D.C., and other key areas in the region. For those who rely on Metrobus, the adjustments reflect Metro’s commitment to meeting evolving transit needs and preparing for the launch of the Better Bus Network in 2025.
Why It Matters
Reliable and frequent public transit is essential for a city like College Park, home to the University of Maryland, thriving businesses, and vibrant neighborhoods. These improvements will not only reduce travel times but also support our city’s efforts to promote sustainable transportation, reduce congestion, and enhance connectivity for all.
