Today is Veterans Day, a day when we honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have defended our nation and preserved our freedoms. The City will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony today at 11 a.m. at the College Park Veterans Memorial (Baltimore Avenue & Greenbelt Road), with James Hawkins serving as this year’s keynote speaker. Residents are invited to bring photos of veterans—past or present—to display on the Honors table. Parking will be available near Bowlero, located at 9021 Baltimore Avenue. The event is organized by the City’s Veterans Memorial Committee.
All City of College Park offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day. Tuesday and Wednesday’s refuse and recycling will occur one day later than normal during this holiday week (Tuesday collections will slide forward to Wednesday, and so forth). However, curbside food scraps will be collected on their regularly scheduled day. Special collections for brush and bulky items will only be scheduled for Friday, November 14, of this holiday week. You must call 240-487-3590 or email publicworks@collegeparkmd.gov to schedule a pickup before setting your items out to the curb.
