History is all around us—and some of it is right here in our own backyard! In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, residents are invited to explore historic sites throughout Prince George’s County during a series of free History in Your Backyard Community Days. Each event will take place on a Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The celebration begins on Saturday, September 12, at the College Park Aviation Museum. Visitors can enjoy a helicopter fly-in, weather permitting, along with a Rosie Revere aviation story and craft, OzoBot robotic coding, Lakeland history, and hands-on activities at the Community Collections Wall. It will be a fun and educational afternoon for children and adults alike.
Additional Community Days will be held on September 19 at Riversdale Historic Site and Darnall’s Chance Historic Site, followed by an event on September 26 at Marietta Historic Site.
All events are free. Bring your family, discover our county’s fascinating history, and enjoy interactive activities at some of Prince George’s County’s most treasured historic sites. Learn more at
