At the March 18, 2025, City Council meeting, the Council will consider approving Extra Work Authorization #10 with KCI Technologies for the design and project management of Wi-Fi services and a CCTV security system at Duvall Field Park. This investment will enhance security and connectivity, supporting ongoing renovations and upgrades at one of College Park’s most significant public spaces.
Project Overview
The City’s Planning and Community Development Department proposed this initiative as part of the broader Duvall Field Phase II Renovation Project, which the city broke ground on last Friday.
The extra work authorization will cover:
- Designing infrastructure for Wi-Fi coverage throughout the park.
- Implementing a CCTV system to improve public safety and asset protection.
- Enhancing security around key locations, including the bandshell, storage facilities, and concession stand.
- Electrical and telecom improvements to support connectivity and surveillance needs.
The Wi-Fi installation will ensure visitors have reliable network access, supporting event operations, vendor transactions, and emergency communication. Meanwhile, CCTV security cameras will replace outdated passive surveillance at the concession stand and provide real-time monitoring, deterring vandalism and improving public safety.
Cost and Financial Impact
The total cost for this extra work authorization is $31,855, which will be added to the existing $7,954,000 project budget. The breakdown of the costs includes:
- Security and telecom design: $16,355
- Electrical modifications: $5,500
- Civil coordination: $5,000
- Project management: $5,000
Notably, this authorization does not include the installation of equipment, which will be handled separately under a future contract.
Why This Matters
Duvall Field is a central hub for recreation, sports, and community gatherings in College Park. The addition of Wi-Fi and security infrastructure aligns with the city’s strategic goals of enhancing public spaces and ensuring safety and accessibility for all residents.
Next Steps
If approved, KCI Technologies will begin the design phase, expected to take approximately six weeks. The final infrastructure installation will follow, further solidifying Duvall Field as a modern, secure, and connected public space.
Please stay informed about this project and provide feedback on how these enhancements can best serve the community.
