Senator Rosapepe at the grand opening

Special thanks go out to the many residents, community groups, and vendors who attended our June 29 grand opening—and made it a success! Senator Jim Rosapepe and Delegate Ben Barnes joined us for a visit and the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Highlights of the morning included a visit from Corporal Jaron Black and Corporal Miguel Core, two Prince George’s County Police officers from the Community Oriented Policing Service (COPS) program. They distributed literature about safety and helped a few families develop children identification kits for their kids, with fingerprints and other information to provide to police in case their children are lost or kidnapped. The parents took the kits home for safekeeping.

Breads from Uptown Bakery

The Branchville Volunteer Fire Department made a grand entrance when it brought one of its trucks, a treat for kids of all ages! Branchville volunteers gave out plastic firefighter hats to the kids so they could pretend they were firefighters too!
Representatives of the College Park Community Library were at the market to talk with people about the library and sign up new members. Check out the CPCL’s website at You may be surprised at the wide variety of activities planned to engage the community, especially the kids!
The City’s Committee for a Better Environment (CBE) had a table where volunteers gave away complimentary, reusable produce bags. Residents can use bags like these instead of plastic bags to reduce waste.
Last but not least, Melissa Sites, director of the College Park Arts Exchange (CPAE), entertained the crowds with her lovely voice and guitar.
