On my campaign trail, I’ve been asked by a number of my neighbors this question – “Who do you recommend to vote for our next Mayor in College Park?”

I must say we have two strong Mayoral candidates and I tremendously enjoyed working with both of them during my four years term on the Council. Regardless of what happens tomorrow at the poll, I hope three of us will still work together in some capacities to make College Park a better place to live for our residents.

College Park is going through a historic change, especially driven by University of Maryland’s investment near the campus area. While we are all excited about this investment, we also need to make sure our next city leader makes the best use of this investment without sacrificing the interests of the city and it’s long term residents.  Mayor Pro-Tem Mitchell has always listened to the residents and she will guide the Council to charter its own course and preserve College Park’s long term interests.

College Park City Council is our highest decision making organization in College Park and the Mayor is the CEO of that organization. We need someone in the Mayoral position who can make up the most cohesive council body serving the interests of residents. Having worked with Mayor Pro-Tem Mitchell for the past four years on the Council, I’ve found her the most respectful to her fellow colleagues. I’m confident that she will be an excellent team builder and make a strong and functional Council government serving our residents.

Mayor ProTem Mitchell has always put residents’ interest before the interests of other interest groups. I never found her pushing her own personal or a special interest group’s agenda to the Council during her six year term on the Council.

Mayor Pro-Tem Mitchell is not a new face in our town. She has lived in College Park with her family for over 40 years. She went to area schools and came back to College Park after finishing College.

Along with me, Ms. Mitchell has been supported by former College Park Mayor Anna Owens, Maryland State Delegate (representing College Park) Joseline Peña-Melnyk, the current Council members Robert Day and Monroe Dennis, former Council members, John Krouse, Mary Cook, Peter King and Christine Nagle.

Please consider voting for Denise Mitchell as your next Mayor, when you will cast your ballot tomorrow. Thank you!
