On December 22, 2024, District 3 Councilmember Stuart Adams announced his decision to step down from the College Park City Council, with his resignation effective January 8, 2025. Councilmember Adams, who represents the southern-most neighborhoods of College Park, cited family commitments as the primary reason for his departure.
Adams, who resides in the Calvert Hills neighborhood, joined the council in 2021 after narrowly defeating long-serving Councilmember Robert Day by just 35 votes. He was re-elected in 2023 and served alongside Councilmember John Rigg in District 3, which includes Yarrow, College Park Estates, Old Town, and Calvert Hills.
In his resignation letter, CM Adams said he championed various initiatives, including affordable childcare, pedestrian and biking safety, and community events during his tenure. He also said he advocated for the Calvert Hills stormwater drainage project and worked to address the challenges of vacant and blighted properties. In his resignation letter, Adams urged the City Council and residents to continue pushing forward on these efforts while fostering unity across all neighborhoods.
“We’re all in this together,” Adams emphasized, calling on the community to “find peace” with what he referred to as “the fictitious north/south College Park divide.”
In addition to his council duties, Adams works full-time as a community resilience engineer for Stantec, a global firm specializing in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. His departure underscores the challenges of balancing part-time council responsibilities with professional and personal commitments.
