Council to Consider Security Camera Upgrades at Duvall Field Next Week

At next week’s meeting, the College Park Mayor and Council will consider approving a proposal with Trinity Wiring & Security Solutions in the amount of approximately $98,965 for the furnishing, installation, testing, and maintenance of a new CCTV security system at Duvall Field.

Duvall Field has become one of the City’s major recreational and athletic destinations, serving youth sports leagues, families, students, and residents throughout the year. In recent years, the City has continued investing heavily in improving parks, athletic facilities, lighting, playgrounds, and recreational amenities across College Park. As part of protecting those public investments, the City is also working to strengthen security and monitoring capabilities at key facilities.

The proposed project would install modern surveillance cameras and associated equipment throughout the Duvall Field complex. The system is intended to help deter vandalism, illegal dumping, property damage, and other criminal activity while improving the City’s ability to review incidents and support law enforcement investigations when needed. The cameras may also assist staff with monitoring facility conditions, identifying maintenance issues, and improving overall operational oversight of the site.

The proposal also includes testing and maintenance of the system to help ensure long-term reliability. The project is being coordinated between the City’s Grants and Information Technology teams as part of broader efforts to modernize public infrastructure and improve safety at City facilities.

Like many local governments, College Park continues balancing investments in public amenities with the need to protect those facilities and ensure residents feel safe using them. The proposed CCTV system is intended to support that goal while helping preserve Duvall Field as a welcoming and well-maintained recreational space for the community.

Good idea even if they are not monitored. Vandalism is very expensive to repair and cameras might deter it.
