College Park is continuing to strengthen its reputation as the “Capital of Quantum.” At the September 1 City Council meeting, we will receive an update on the upcoming 2026 Quantum World Congress, which will take place September 23–25 at The Hotel at the University of Maryland.

The sold-out international conference will bring together leaders from science, industry, government, finance, and education to discuss the rapidly growing field of quantum technology and its real-world applications. Major participants and sponsors include IBM, D-Wave, IonQ, Microsoft, Quantinuum, and other leading organizations in the quantum sector.
College Park is uniquely positioned to play a major role in this emerging industry because of the University of Maryland’s world-class research ecosystem and the growing concentration of quantum organizations in our community. Microsoft has established a quantum research center here, and DARPA’s Capital Quantum Benchmarking Hub is also helping strengthen the region’s leadership in quantum science and commercialization.
The City is excited to welcome conference participants and highlight College Park as a place where cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship, education, and innovation come together.
