I’m excited to share some great news for our community: the City of College Park has been officially designated a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. This is the first time College Park has received this recognition, and it reflects years of intentional work to make our city safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for people who bike.

This designation recognizes communities that are taking meaningful steps to support bicycling through better infrastructure, education, and community engagement. In College Park, that includes expanding bike lanes, building miles of interconnected hiker-biker trails, improving crossings, and hosting bicycle-friendly events like Bike to Work Day. These efforts are part of our broader goal to create a more connected transportation network that works for everyone—whether you’re commuting, running errands, or enjoying a recreational ride.
Bicycle and pedestrian safety are important priorities for our residents. In 2023, the Mayor and Council created the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee to help guide the development of policies and projects that improve walkability and bikeability across the city. This Bronze-level designation is a reflection of that work and our continued commitment to walkers and cyclists of all ages and abilities.
College Park now joins other Maryland communities such as Rockville, Annapolis, Frederick, Ocean City, and Salisbury in earning Bronze-level status. The designation is valid through 2029 and encourages continued progress and alignment with national best practices.
We’re proud of this milestone and look forward to building on this momentum as we continue investing in safer streets, stronger trail connections, and more options for getting around College Park without a car.
