The City of College Park recently had the privilege of recognizing Boy Scout Troop 740 during a City Council meeting for an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects the very best of our community’s young people. The Mayor and Council presented the troop with a Certificate of Recognition in honor of completing an incredible 208-mile hike from Holy Redeemer Church in College Park, Maryland, to Goshen Scout Reservation in Virginia.

Covering 208 miles is no small feat. It requires months of preparation, physical endurance, mental toughness, teamwork, and unwavering determination. Along the journey, these Scouts faced countless challenges, relying on one another while demonstrating the timeless values of Scouting—leadership, service, integrity, preparedness, respect, and perseverance.

During the recognition ceremony, the Mayor and Council commended Troop 740 not only for completing an impressive physical challenge but also for serving as an inspiration to the entire College Park community. Their achievement reminds us that success is built one step at a time through discipline, hard work, and a shared commitment to a common goal.

This recognition also celebrated the many people who helped make the journey possible. Dedicated Scout leaders, volunteers, parents, and families invested countless hours planning, encouraging, and supporting the troop every step of the way. Their commitment to mentoring young people continues to strengthen our community and helps develop the next generation of leaders.

Boy Scout Troop 740 has long been an active part of College Park, volunteering in community service projects and lending a helping hand whenever needed. Earlier this year, members of the troop assisted seniors with snow removal through the City’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors program, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to serving others.

Congratulations once again to every member of Boy Scout Troop 740 on this remarkable accomplishment. The City of College Park is proud of your achievement and grateful for the positive example you set for our community. We look forward to seeing all that you accomplish in the years ahead.
