COLLEGE PARK, MD, August 22, 2016 – City Manager Scott Somers announced today that Gary Fields has been selected as the next Finance Director for College Park. Fields will replace Steve Groh, who is retiring after 17 years with the City. Somers said that City staff worked together on developing the criteria for the type of candidate the City needs to replace Groh, and went through several hiring rounds to find the ideal fit.
In regards to Fields, Somers stated that “the Finance Director is a vital position for the City, and we are thrilled to have Gary join our team. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are greatly looking forward to working with him.” With a total of 35 years in finance, 29 of which in governmental finance, Fields has an extensive background with local governments as well as private industry.
Fields is currently the Finance Director for the City of Manassas Park, Virginia. He previously served as Finance Director for the City of Gross Pointe, Michigan and the City of Bay City, Michigan. Fields received his Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from Abilene Christian University.
Fields is expected to start on September 19, 2016.
