Shuttle – UM

In last week’s work session,  the Council discussed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) of the University of Maryland College Park and the City about using the UMd’s UM-Shuttle by the College Park residents.

The draft MOU states that between September 1, 2013 through September 1, 2014, residents and employees of the City in possession of a prescribed identification card issued by the City will be allowed access to all publicly scheduled shuttle routes operated by DOTS.

For the shuttle bus services, the City would agree to pay DOTS $6,000, which is due by December 31, 2013. The annual rate covers up to 1,000 passes.Under the terms of the MOU, DOTS must provide the City with annual ridership data. The City shall keep a record of the total number of passes distributed during the agreement term. If the total number of annual passes distributed reaches 1 ,000, the City shall notify DOTS which will authorize the City to issue additional passes in increments of 100 at no added cost to the City.

Either party may terminate this agreement by providing written notice of termination 60 days prior to the stated termination date. DOTS shall report on the implementation of the above program with the City to the Senate Finance Committee and the House Economic Matters Committee by 12/31/13.

Based on the feedback from a number of residents, we think that it is important to keep it in place so that they can have access to transportation services around the City.
