One of the highlights of tomorrow night’s City Council meeting will be the presentation of a Certificate of Recognition to Boy Scout Troop 740 for completing an extraordinary 208-mile hike from Holy Redeemer Church in College Park to the Goshen Scout Reservation in Virginia. This remarkable accomplishment reflects the perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and determination that are at the heart of Scouting.

The journey began on June 14, when members of Troop 740, ranging in age from 12 to 17, set out from Holy Redeemer Church on foot for what would become an unforgettable two-week adventure. Along the way, the Scouts hiked through varying terrain, camped outdoors, relied on one another, and overcame the physical and mental challenges of covering more than 200 miles before arriving at Camp Olmsted in the Goshen Scout Reservation to begin their week at summer camp. Their achievement is a testament to months of preparation, discipline, and dedication.

Founded in 1955 and chartered by Holy Redeemer Church, Troop 740 has a long tradition of developing young leaders through outdoor adventure, community service, and character-building experiences. This historic trek is another example of the troop’s commitment to challenging its Scouts while teaching invaluable lessons in resilience, responsibility, and teamwork.

Tomorrow evening’s Certificate of Recognition will honor not only the Scouts who completed the hike but also the dedicated adult leaders, volunteers, and families whose support made this incredible journey possible. Their accomplishment serves as an inspiration to our entire community and reminds us what can be achieved through hard work, perseverance, and a shared sense of purpose.

Please join me in congratulating Boy Scout Troop 740 on this outstanding achievement. I look forward to recognizing these exceptional young men and their leaders during tomorrow night’s City Council meeting. Congratulations, Troop 740—you have made College Park proud!
