Today we came together to celebrate Lakeland Community Day, a heartfelt occasion to honor the rich heritage and history of the Lakeland community in College Park.
This annual gathering is much more than an event—it is a homecoming. Lakeland Day brings descendants of this historically Black community back to reconnect with one another, honor their families, and celebrate the resilience that has defined Lakeland for generations.
The day was filled with warmth, conversations, and moments of togetherness. It was inspiring to see residents, community leaders, and friends come together to reflect on the strength of Lakeland’s past and the hope for its future.
Lakeland holds a special place in the history of College Park, and preserving its stories ensures that future generations will understand and appreciate the legacy of those who came before us. Today’s celebration was a reminder of the importance of community, memory, and resilience.
