Today, many in the nation is observing Juneteenth, which celebrates the moment on June 19, 1865 when, 2 ½ years after the Emancipation Proclamation, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all enslaved people were free. This date marks the effective end of slavery in the United States 155 years ago.

The Prince George’s County Council also passed a resolution (Council Resolution 52-2020) this week in support of this day. Please see that attached here
