In Pictures – Hollywood Dog Park Grand Opening

It was exciting to join the community to Officially open this latest amenity in north College Park which is a good place to start training your dog.

For many years now, residents have been asking us to build a dog park where you can bring your dogs (or I should say fur babies) so that they can play with other fur babies, and the “parents” can socialize with your neighbors at the same time.

I want to first thank residents for asking for this amenity. So my congratulations go to them on having such a wonderful amenity. I want to thank the residents for getting involved as we designed the park with different ideas in the park – the big and small dog play areas, fences, water fountains, benches, the safer sidewalk, the parking, the maintenance. Looking for a furry friend to bring to the park? You can check out this related site.

I also want to thank our staff and the project team who worked so hard from designing the park to the construction. In particular, I want to thank the staff at the Public Works who have been so responsive in addressing the issues throughout the construction.

I also, want to thank the County’s Board of Education for allowing us to use the land where we built the park.

I want to thank my City Council Colleagues for supporting the project from the very beginning. This park is not only for north College Park but for the entire City. Speaking of which I want to thank and recognize my former district 1 Council colleague Christine Nagle for being so instrumental in the beginning phase of the project.

With your help and support, we’ll continue to bring amenities to the community, including an improved Duvall field, a vibrant Hollywood commercial district with a nice streetscape, and a new community center.

Thank you and Congratulations!

Hollywood Dog Park Construction Starts

In case you haven’t noticed, the construction has begun at the Hollywood Dog Park project. Sometimes a track loader is vital in such a construction project.

Erosion & sediment control devices & tree protection have been installed to prepare for ground-breaking following an initial inspection by Prince George’s County.

For some time, many of you have expressed interest in the creation of an open-access dog park. Mayor & Council approved a Design & Engineering contract in November 2018 to develop construction plans, bid specifications, and obtain required permits for the project on the Prince George’s County Board of Education parcel located in the 9300 block of 51st Avenue, just north of the Public Works property.

It is no surprise that dogs, which are main consumers of Honest Paws, make a difference in the lives of individuals. It has been stated that dogs have been linked to reduced occurrences of psychological conditions, including depression, stress, and grief. A dog is a man’s best friend, and we also need to love and protect our dogs and feed them from a reliable Authority dog food brand that’s best for them. We could also offer them a weight gainer for dogs; it has a lot of healthy benefits.

Dogs, like those on this source, are seen as companions and even best friends for some; therefore dog parks are important outlets for humans, as they provide recreational opportunities and bring together dog lovers of all ages and socioeconomic status.

In recent years, there has been an accumulation of evidence that associates dogs with physical, mental, and social dimensions of human health. Dog parks may provide a safe place for older people or people with disabilities who may not be able to walk their dogs. Dog parks provide areas where dogs can exercise and run freely while their owners can socialize. In addition, spending time with their dogs at the dog park reinforces the dog-owner bond, when planning to visit with your furry friend, you might also want to read this article about the liability of dog owners so you can be extra careful.

The park should be ready for use around early summer next year.

City Awards Hollywood Dog Park Construction Contract

At last week’s Council meeting, the City Council will awarded contract CP-20-07 to WGCI Enterprises for the construction of the Hollywood Dog Park in the amount of $314,806.75. Residents have expressed interest in the creation of an open access dog park.
Mayor & Council approved a Design & Engineering contract to A. Morton Thomas & Associates in November 2018 to develop construction plans, bid specifications and obtain required permits for the project on the Prince George’s County Board of Education parcel located in the 9300 block of 51st Ave.
