There’s something special about neighbors coming together to build something that benefits the entire community—and that’s exactly what’s happening in Berwyn.

On Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Berwyn District Civic Association is inviting residents to Berwyn Park (8301 49th Ave.) for a community planting event to help complete Berwyn’s brand-new rain garden.
This is more than just a planting event. It’s a chance to be part of a project that supports sustainability, improves our environment, and brings people together.
🌱 Why a Rain Garden Matters
Rain gardens help manage stormwater in a natural and effective way. By planting native perennials, we can:
- Reduce runoff and localized flooding
- Filter pollutants before they reach our streams and rivers
- Support pollinators and local wildlife
- Enhance the beauty of our neighborhoods
It’s a simple idea with a big impact—and one that reflects College Park’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
🌸 What to Expect
Volunteers will help plant 100 native perennial plants to bring the rain garden to life. No experience is needed—just come ready to help.
The City of College Park will provide:
- Compost
- Tools
- Gloves
- All necessary supplies
Just bring comfortable clothing and your community spirit.
🤝 A True Community Effort
This project is supported by a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust and sponsored by County Councilmember Eric Olson. It’s a great example of what we can accomplish when community groups, local government, and residents work together.
🌼 Join Us
I encourage everyone—families, students, and neighbors—to come out and take part. Whether you stay for a short time or the entire event, your effort will help create something lasting for Berwyn.
Let’s come together, get our hands in the soil, and make a difference.
I hope to see you there! 🌿
