The City of College Park is excited to invite residents to a special evening celebrating art, literature, and creativity with acclaimed illustrator and graphic novelist Gareth Hinds.
Join us on Thursday, May 21 at 7:00 PM at City Hall (7401 Baltimore Avenue) for this free, public event that brings visual storytelling to life.
Gareth Hinds is widely known for transforming classic works of literature into richly illustrated graphic novels that resonate with modern audiences. His acclaimed adaptations include Beowulf, King Lear, stories by Edgar Allan Poe, and The Odyssey—his best-selling title. His work has become especially popular in classrooms, helping middle and high school students engage with classic texts in a more accessible and visually compelling way.
During the event, Hinds will offer a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process, sharing how he reimagines timeless stories through illustration. He will also discuss his current and upcoming projects, including a deluxe edition of The Odyssey releasing on May 12, 2026, and his forthcoming adaptation of The Aeneid, expected in Spring 2027. The evening will also feature a live drawing demonstration, giving attendees a rare opportunity to watch an accomplished artist at work in real time.
A longtime contributor to the vibrant arts community along the Route 1 corridor, Hinds now calls Hyattsville home and continues to draw inspiration from the creative energy of our region.
This event is a wonderful opportunity for students, educators, families, and art lovers to experience the power of visual storytelling up close—and to connect with one of the region’s most accomplished illustrators.
We hope you’ll join us for an inspiring evening at City Hall.
