Dear neighbors,
I am Fazlul Kabir. I am your neighbor and have had the privilege to serve you as a Councilmember of College Park representing District 1 for the past 12 years. I am now running for Mayor of College Park and I ask for your vote and support in this upcoming election.
20 years ago, my wife and I bought our first home in the Hollywood neighborhood of College Park, where we raised our two boys – Arif and Samir. Arif graduated from the R.H. Smith Business School at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), and Samir graduated from the A. James Clark Engineering School at UMCP.
Before I made College Park my final home, I spent several years in Canada. Before that, I lived in England, where I earned my Ph.D. degree. Being an immigrant from a minority background, I am incredibly humbled and grateful for the love, support and acceptance I received from our wonderful community in College Park.
My current day job is with the Federal government. In the past, I also worked with a number of other Federal agencies, where I gathered experience in developing business proposals, financial and project management skills. Additionally, I also taught Cybersecurity as an adjunct professor at UMCP for eight years.
I love to listen to our residents and get things done. During the Council terms, I listened to our residents and worked on several amenities – a new Duvall Field, Hollywood Streetscape, Hollywood Dog Park, Gateway Park, protected bike lanes and a community center. Being the representative of all districts in the City, I will listen to all residents of College Park and extend my advocacy to bring more amenities to every part of the City.
Being the Mayor, I will advocate for strong public safety, better code enforcement, smart economic development, sustainable and green programs, aging-in-place for our seniors, partnership with the University, enhanced education in our schools, affordable housing, and a healthy mode of transportation.
I have been advocating and working collaboratively on City issues with our neighboring towns and partners at the County and State levels. Being the Mayor, I will have better opportunities to advance City issues and bring amenities and services to College Park.
I love meeting new neighbors during my campaign. In the coming days, I will be at your doors to hear your ideas and how we can make them happen together. As I hit the campaign trail, I’ll appreciate the opportunity to meet and listen to you.
Since 2009, I have been writing this daily community blog http://KabirCares.org. Currently, the blog has more than 4700 posts. Please visit it to find out more about community news, development projects, commentaries, crime maps, and announcements.
Last but not least, I ask for your vote and support in this upcoming election. Together, we can make College Park the best it can be.
Your neighbor,
Fazlul Kabir

Fazlul is the person who developed and made north College Park Farmers Market a success. He works tirelessly to help the resident solve their problems with the city. I am thankful to have him as a councilman and hope that he keeps on going.

Hello Fazlul
I was wondering if you knew of any plans for the near non-existent playground on Cherokee behind the Berwyn Baptist Church. Do you know who it belongs to? I would love to see something done about bringing a quality playground to that piece of land.
THank youj

Fazlul Kabir
Hi Julia, Thank you for asking. I believe it belongs to the Church. Please try to talk to the Church about your ideas on improving the playground. Please let me know if you need help in contacting them. Thanks.

The number you have for the noise complaint is for College Park only. It states that it’s for all PG. County. Do you know if there’s a department like yours for Hyattsville?
Who created this new ordnance? Because 50 feet is too much, I live 10 feet away from the noise. I have Noisy neighbors and it seems that 50 feet is not enough. Also there are restaurants around my neighbor that think they can bring bands outside their premises and have their own concerts.

What are you doing to stop the encroachment of the Paint Branch Preserve development on our community?
Fazlul Kabir
Hi Alan, The plan is still in the very early stage, but we’re keeping a close watch on this development, related to issues such as traffic, impact on school, tree canopy, storm water, compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood etc.

Once again I didn’t get medical premium bill in mail. Got warning letter.
This is a reoccurring problem. Can’t city put pressure on this P.O.

The City of College Park has not seen a more dedicated Councilmember to the City and its citizens than Fazlul in many years.
